Notes & Reviews:

As pianist, recording artist, and more recently conductor, Howard Shelley has enjoyed a distinguished career since his highly acclaimed London recital debut in 1971 and a televised Prom the same season. He has performed regularly in the US, Europe, Scandinavia, Israel, Australia, and the Far East. Shelley has been soloist under the baton of such outstanding conductors as Ashkenazy, Boult, de Waart, Davis, Jansons, Marriner, Rozhdestvenksy, and Weller. As Principal Guest Conductor of the London Mozart Players, he has appeared frequently throughout Britain and on international tours. He has also conducted the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Israel Sinfonietta, and Orchestre National de Lille, as well as orchestras in Finland, Sweden, and Australia. Shelley is especially associated with the music of Rachmaninov, having performed a complete cycle of the composer's solo piano works as well as award-winning recordings of both the solo piano music and the concertos. Additional commercial recordings testify to Shelley's wide-ranging repertoire and, as a result, he has been nominated several times for the Gramophone Awards. He has appeared on the soundtracks of films such as Anna Karenina (1997), Testimony (1988), and Un coeur en hiver (1992).
