Winterreise (Winter Journey) is quite probably Schubert’s magnum opus. Composed in 1827, a year before his death, this song cycle deals in themes of despair, remoteness, alienation and loss. This recording with baritone Christian Hilz was made in 2007. The forte piano used was made by Conrad Graf in 1827 and recreates as closely as possible the sound of the first performance.Notes & Reviews:
