Notes & Reviews:

Also known as You Raise Me Up: Songs for Mum in some territories, Rosen aus dem Suden is one of several 2010 releases to capitalize on the belated success of Dutch violinist, conductor, and composer Andre Rieu. Backed by the Johann Strauss Orchestra, the 16-track collection features orchestral reworkings of Secret Garden's "You Raise Me Up" and Bette Midler's "The Rose," alongside collaborations with sopranos Mirusia Louwerse ("There Is a Song in Me") and Carmen Monarcha ("Love Live Forever"), trumpet player Roger Diederen ("Il Silenzio"), and the Platin Tenors ("Mama," "Dark Roses"). ~ Jon O'Brien
