Notes & Reviews:
A lifetime of performances around the world and an extensive discography has ensured that the great horn player Hermann Baumann's stupendous technique, versatility and characterful playing has been heard and admired by thousands of music lovers. This extensive survey of his art embraces the major concertos and some rarities, fascinating chamber works and a selection of virtuoso showpieces for the enjoyment of today's -and tomorrow's- listeners.
"He plays the whole programme very well... Masur gives rich-textured accompaniments with the Leipzig orchestra, especially lush in the Straussian passages of the Gliere and the orchestral interludes of the Chabrier - in both there is a real feeling of ecstasy at times. Excellent recording too, warm and full and not muddy" -Gramophone

... Baumann's virtuosity is on most spectacular display. Of special interest is the disc devoted to music for hunting horn ensemble. Grande Messe de Saint Hubert by Jules Cantin and arranged by Baumann is strikingly eccentric but effective; it includes ensembles of both valve horns playing in modern equal temperament and hunting horns playing in natural temperament.
American Record Guide
The sonics are excellent - all voices natural, clear, and in balance... Hermann Baumann is one of the great horn soloists of our time... this marvelous collection captures some of his best work.
