Album Summary
Performer
Thomas Selditz (Viola)
Notes & Reviews:
Nineteenth-century contemporaries ranked Gade with Mendelssohn, but it is only recently that this Danish composer's music has once again returned to the concert halls. Niels Wilhelm Gade was strongly influenced by the time that he spent in Leipzig beginning in 1843. There he made contact with the circle surrounding Mendelssohn and Schumann, his first symphony was premiered, and he had the opportunity to conduct the Gewandhaus Orchestra.
