In an interview with composer Giel Vleggaar (1974), he mentioned Prince, the pop legend who achieved worldwide fame with music in which straightforwardness and danceability go hand in hand with deliberate structures. This principle also forms the basis of Vleggaar’s music. He, however, uses different means: not a rock group, but ensembles of principally acoustic instruments, played by professional musicians. His Piano Concerto, premiered in the ZaterdagMatinee at the end of January and featured on this disc, stands by these principles.
