Virtuoso Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924) was a legendary figure, considered by his contemporaries as the most eminent personality since Franz Liszt. He also composed and promoted new music, and was active as a translator, editor, pedagogue, composition teacher and conductor. This great mentor and visionary influenced countless musicians beyond his own circle of pupils, such as Sibelius, Schoenberg, Weill and Varese.
