Brahms is one of Maestro Zubin Mehta's favorite composers. During the fifty years that he has been the music director of the Israel Philharmonic, Mehta has included the famed German composer's works in countless concert programs. These performances of the first and third symphonies were recorded live in concert in 2009. The orchestra sounds warm and the performances are alive with the beauty of the music. Mehta's tempi for both symphonies feel just right - not too fast in the outer movements, and not to sluggish or drawn out in the slower sections.
