Notes & Reviews:

Previously Available as CDA 66629 (034571166292) Deleted October 2007 Francisco de Peñalosa was born around 1470 near Madrid. His career as a composer and singer coincided with the beginning of Spain's Golden Age, spanning the time of the conquest of Granada and the final expulsion of the Moors, the discovery of the New World, the unification of the Spanish kingdoms of Castile and Aragon and the beginnings of Spain's rapid rise as a world power. Peñalosa was the most important figure of his generation. This disc with the Westminster Cathedral Choir led by James O'Donnell presents two of the composer's glorious mass settings.
