Bruce Levingston (Piano)
Notes & Reviews:
Combining the best of the old and new with world premiere recordings, Sono Luminus is proud to announce the first of three upcoming albums from world renowned pianist Bruce Levingston. Heart Shadow contains three major piano works inspired by literature of the 19th and 20th centuries including works by two of the most outstanding composers of our time: Rome Prizewinner Lisa Bielawa and Pulitzer Prize-winner Charles Wuorinen.
Fanfare
Levingston has one of the most colorful pianistic palettes I have ever heard... Levingston proves that his ample facility with color can serve certain music very well, and this is a good example.
Baker & Taylor CD Hotlist
... the Schumann pieces are elegant, even frilly; the Bielawa piece is spare and elegiac; the Wuorinen (a reduction of material from his opera based on a Salman Rushdie novel) is full of jagged atonalisms, sometimes quiet and sometimes fierce. Levingston's playing is exemplary throughout.
