Notes & Reviews:
In 1963, the youngest of 88 competitors, Michael Roll won the first Leeds International Piano Competition. Since that time his career has taken him worldwide, appearing under such conductors as Boulez, Masur, Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, Giulini, Leinsdorf, Sawallisch, Mehta, Frühbeck de Burgos, Sanderling, and Andrew Davis.
Jean-Jacques Kantorow is one of the outstanding French violinists of his generation. He quickly established himself not only on the European scene but also in the US & Canada. Among the many distinguished artists he worked with are Gidon Kremer, Krystan Zimerman, and Paul Tortelier.
Raphael Wallfisch stands out even in a generation that has produced more fine cellists than ever before. He has recorded a wide range of British cello concertos, including works by Finzi, Delius, Bax, Bliss, Moeran, Walton, and Kenneth Leighton as well as Britten's formidable Cello Symphony.
As pianist, recording artist, and conductor, Howard Shelley has enjoyed a distinguished career since his highly acclaimed London recital debut in 1971 and a televised Prom the same season.
"It offers some of the most well-rounded interpretations of Beethoven I've heard, some splendid sound, and a coupling, the Fourth Piano Concerto with the Triple Concerto, I've not found elsewhere. It makes a good package... the sonics are natural and realistic and highly listenable." -Classical Candor
