Notes & Reviews:

Listen to the essential Bach funeral music with this new 3-CD release from Capriccio. As performed by the Rheinische Kantorei, Das Kleine Konzert and Hermann Max, this CD performs Bach's more delicate works with the weight and dignity they require. Booklet contains notes, complete libretto and translations.

the most impressive work ...

Baker & Taylor CD Hotlist
Johann Ludwig... work deserves more attention than it has gotten, and this nicely-priced three-disc set brings together some of his more attractive vocal works: an ambitious three-part funeral service, a set of eight motets, three sacred cantatas, and a Mass setting. The performances by the Rheinische Kantorei and Das Kleine Konzert (recorded between 1993 and 2002 and originally issued separately) are excellent.

BBC Music Magazine, January 2012 ****
The 'Meiningen' Bach, distantly related to Johann Sebastian, had a rare gift for ravishing, haunting melody. His Funeral Music is essential listening.
