Album Notes

Audio Mixer: Steve Rosenthal.

Liner Note Author: Peter Guralnick.

This two-disc set combines what are arguably Sam Cooke's two best LPs, 1963's Night Beat and 1985's One Night Stand! Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square Club (the performance dates from early 1963), in one package. The Harlem Square set is simply one of the greatest live albums ever recorded, while the Night Beat session showed Cooke in late-night blues mode. Both albums are essential, and paired together like this, they form a perfect introduction to this one-of-a-kind artist. ~ Steve Leggett
