Notes & Reviews:

modified- music for bassoon takes you to a quasi-jaunt to different timbres of the bassoon. The exploration starts with Heitor Villa-Lobos merging Choro-Style and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in his Bachianas Brasileiras No6 for flute and bassoon. It continues with David Lang's Press Release, starting with the idea of pressing and releasing the fingers on the horn and therefore creating a duo in itself between funky bass lines and floating coolness on top. The conclusion of the albums concept is created by Gene Pritsker and his work Modofied#3. From the very classical chamber music sound of the beginning of the album it develops into a blend of prerecorded and mutated bassoon sound with the live bassoon opening a whole new cosmos of timbre for the listener.
