Notes & Reviews:

Petrouchka, a ballet composed by Igor Stravinsky, tells the story of the traditional puppet, Petrushka, who is made of straw and sawdust, but comes to life and develops emotions. Fusing music, ballet, choreography and history in perfect balance, Stravinsky's work was said to have inspired Richard Wagner's Gesamtkunswerk. Bartók's The Miraculous Mandarin is also a ballet. The one act work is a pantomime ballet which, when premiered, caused such a scandal in Germany that it was banned! Both works here are performed by the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Ken Nagano.
