Notes & Reviews:

As a new century in the history of the concert band begins, the United States Marine Band enjoys a more vast and diverse repertoire than before. In the early days of concert band, conductors like John Philip Sousa, Patrick Gilmore, Giuseppe Creatore and other fore-fathers of American concert band had to work really hard to find varied repertoire for concerts. This often meant transcribing great orchestral works for band. Retrospective features historic band favorites from various times in the Marine Band's life. Included on this album are: "Selections from Andrea Chenier," "Espana Rhapsodie," "Tone Poem, Mannin Veen," "Marche militaire francaise from Suite algerienne, Op. 60," "Polka and Fugue from Schwanda the Bagpiper," "Finale from the Symphonic Poem Mazeppa," "Dance of the Hours from La Gioconda," "Triumphal March from Aida," and "Coronation March, Crown Imperial."
