Ensemble Composers

Notes & Reviews:

Ensemble Aventure, formed in 1986, today belongs to the most important and popular contemporary music formations in its field and makes a crucial contribution to the genre's development through compositions commissioned on an annual basis, numerous premiere performances and by building up repertoire. This recording takes Edgar Varèse's &dbquo;Octandre" line-up (eight-voice instrumental line-up) as its starting point. Several young composers devoted themselves to this instrumentation at the suggestion of Ensemble Aventure - and the works written for this more-or-less concept CD are quite in keeping with Varèse's spirit. This CD received the German Record Critics' Award.

Founded in early 1986 in Freiburg, Ensemble Aventure is one of the oldest and most important contemporary music ensembles in Europe known for commissioning new works and world premiere performances. This concept album features the works of several young composers who devoted themselves to writing in the spirit of Varese's Octandre instrumentation, an 8 voice instrumental line-up. Octandre is the recipient of the German Record Critic's Award.
