Notes & Reviews:

Who has not heard of them, Max and Moritz' pranks? Generations of parents have read these tales as deterring 'bedtime stories' and these almost immortal tales, translated into dozens of languages, are still a joy today for young and old. At first planned as a scenic composition, performances at the children's music theatre in Potsdam and as a ballet performance at the National opera house in Berlin made composer Gisbert Näther think about a concert version - which was also the basis of this recording. The composer finds characteristic themes, written in a polystylistic manner, to portray the individual figures and this especially encourages younger listeners to listen 'in pictures'. The inimitable interpretation of the story by Katja Riemann and the amusing musical production guarantee 'great entertainment' in the true meaning of the phrase.
