Notes & Reviews:
A wealth of recordings is available with music by Telemann written in the popular French and Italian styles. However, on Barbaric Beauty, the Holland Baroque Society focuses on Telemann's music in the Polish style. Joined by Milos Valent - a specialist both in Baroque music and 18th-century Central-European folk music - the group plays a program that mixes classical and folk music of the period and demonstrates the centuries-old influence of 'popular' music on 'art' music. Alongside music by Telemann and his contemporaries, the disc features folk dance music from the Melodarium/ Szirmay-Keczer and Uhrovec Collections.Notes & Reviews:
