Notes & Reviews:

Now available again! LEON MINKUS was a musician who nevertheless was among the most performed ballet composers of the 19th century. MARIUS PETIPA, a brilliant choreographer born in 1818 in Marseilles collaborated for his début at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 1869 with Leon Minkus. Thus there came into being Don Quijote, whose acclaimed premiere on 14 December 1869 was not only a landmark in the history of Russian ballet, but also represented the beginning of the unclouded and fruitful collaboration that then associated Minkus and Petipa for more than two decades. Since today "Don Quijote" is a must for ballet companies and most beloved for friends of ballet music.
