Notes & Reviews:
Now entering its sixteenth season, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project continues to lead as the premier ensemble dedicated to performing, recording, and preserving the compelling orchestral music of our time. 2011 marks the centenary of the birth of Alan Hovhaness. In celebration of Hovhaness's music and life, BMOP/sound will release the first in a series of recordings of his major orchestral music.
Fanfare Magazine, July / August 2012
The performances are carefully shaped, with much attention to intonation, balance, and nuances of phrasing. The disc is a worthy contribution to the Hovhaness discography, but one rues the missed opportunity of a chorus of this stature focusing its attention on the composer's most inspired works within this genre.
