Frank Shipway, one of Britain's foremost international conductors, studied with Sir John Barbirolli and received invaluable help from Herbert von Karajan. His career began to expand when Lorin Maazel invited him to the Berlin Opera, and he has worked often in the opera theatre including the Glyndebourne and English National Opera. During his Berlin years, Shipway's repertoire included the operas of Mozart, Beethoven, Puccini, Verdi, Wagner, and Strauss. He has given master classes in many parts of the world, and has judged the Maleo and Toscanini conducting competitions.
