Album Summary
Ensemble ComposersNotes & Reviews:
Mendelssohn composed his Quartet, Op. 13 in 1827 when he was only 18 years old and still a student in Berlin, at a point when some of his best-loved and appreciated instrumental and chamber works already counted among his compositions. This CD also includes a composition Franz Schubert was particularly fond of: the Quartettsatz. It was written in 1820 and maintains the lyric fervor of the Trout Quintet (which preceded it by a year), corroborated by the deep and passionate quality of his lieder compositions of the same period.
