Notes & Reviews:

Composer Alfred Schnittke saw himself as a German, a Russian, and a Jew, a "poly-identity" that influenced his views on composition for his String Trio. His works feature collages, citation techniques, distortions, and cross-fadings of the past and present. Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 80 is one of the darkest and most brooding of the composer's works. Prokofiev experimented with the techniques and tonalities of the human voice, making his instrumental treatment of it a globally recognizable, influential technique.
