Notes & Reviews:
Joan Sutherland (Norma), Luciano Pavarotti (Pollione), Montserrat Caballé (Adalgisa), Samuel Ramey (Oroveso)
Orchestra & Chorus of Welsh National Opera, Richard Bonynge
"This is a starry recording of Bellini's masterpiece... Sutherland's 'Casta Diva' is a very fine piece of singing and especially when played at quite high levels one can begin to imagine the impact that such singing must have had in the opera house... Richard Bonynge conducts with a good deal of brio and drive. He gets excellent results from the chorus." -MusicWeb-International
Though Dame Joan Sutherland was 58 when her second Norma recording was made, her singing is still impressive, but Pavarotti is in some ways the set's greatest strength, easily expressive as Pollione
