The Vienna New Year’s Concert is the world’s most famous classical music event. Established by the Vienna Philharmonic as an annual tradition, the concert has become a brand name. This special limited edition, 3-CD plus DVD package is a long-awaited collection from the history of these New Year’s Concerts, featuring the great maestros – Herbert Von Karajan, Carlos Kleiber, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. It contains two CDs with ultimate highlights, the legendary first concert of Kleiber from 1989 on CD 3, and von Karajan’s 1987 single performance on DVD.

Kleiber extracts from the orchestra playing that is variously exhilaratingly exciting (the conclusion of the Fledermaus Overture and the Ellen a Magyar! Polka, for instance) or hauntingly delicate (e.g. the opening of Künstlerleben).
