Notes & Reviews:

Bach likely wrote his six Violin Sonatas while employed as Capellmeister in Cöthen. The sonatas realize a glorious synthesis between the severe style of German music and the flexible and melodic writing of Italian music. This recording from Eloquentia features violinist Florian Deuter, formerly concertmaster of Music Antiqua Koln and now concertmaster of the Musiciens du Louvre and founder of the chamber music group L' Harmonie Universelle. He is joined by harpsichordist Philippe Grisvard and cellist Balázs Máté.
