Notes & Reviews:

This disc pairs trios by two Russian late Romantic composers, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Anton Arensky, played by the Kinsky Trio Prague. It brings together a master with one of his former students and highlights the contrasts between nationalistic approaches to one of the cosmopolitan new generation. However, in spite of their differences, both works ultimately favor the splendor of Romanticism in which the keyboard is king. The dominant influences in these trios are the music of Brahms and Mendelssohn, albeit flavored with a keenly Slavic sense of lyricism.

American Record Guide, November/December 2012
Praga's SACD sonics convey a lustrous, full-bodied string tone without a hint of strain or brittleness; and the piano tone is round and firm in the lower notes, with clarity yet not a hint of clatter farther up the keyboard. The engineers have convincingly captured the three instruments in a definable, three-dimensional space. Normally, I say SACD gives more benefit to big orchestral scores, but it definitely adds a great deal to this production.

Praga's sonics convey a luscious, full-bodied string tone without a hint of strain or brittleness; and the piano tone is round and firm in the lower notes. It definitely adds a great deal to this production. If you like romantic piano trios, I think you'll enjoy this immensely.
