Notes & Reviews:

Accompanied by exceptional musicians, French music specialist Eric Aubier enhances Tomasi's music - sometimes expressive, sometimes intimate.

American Record Guide, November/December 2012
If I'm deciphering the program listing correctly, Aubier is not one of the performers in Fanfares (1944), one of the staples of brass choir repertory. First used in the opera Miguel Manara, the fanfares open with a thrilling 'Annonciation' that gives way to solo trombone oratory in 'Evangile'. Bitonality makes for scary sounds in 'Apocalypse', and then a nine-minute 'Procession Nocturne' gradually turns from eerie to triumphant. For sheer brass splendor - beautiful tone qualities and near-perfect intonation - this recording is not the equal of Summit Brass's (Sept/Oct 1995: 253). Still, it is a most enjoyable listening experience, especially because the Procession includes singers: soprano Anna Stefaniak and the Rouen Chorus. They elevate an already remarkable ending.
