Everything Gheorghiu achieves here is technically assured, thought through and emotionally rewarding. This is a deeply satisfying traversal of the Puccini canon.

"Soprano Angela Gheorghiu confirms her status as one of today's reigning divas with this survey of Puccini's leading ladies... Gheorghiu certainly has the vocal goods to put Puccini's gorgeous melodies across, but just as important, her dramatic instincts allow her to differentiate the personalities of the 12 characters (from 10 different operas) whom she portrays here, ranging from reticent Mimì and playful Musetta to imploring Liù and imperious Turandot. Even within a single role, Gheorghiu nails the transformation from Butterfly's hopeful "Un bel dì vedremo" to the final, pre-suicide farewell to her son. Almost unbearably chilling in this recording, the latter is one of Gheorghiu's strongest performances on the disc; Manon, also on the brink of death in "Sola, perduta, abbandonata," provides another. In fact, she's at her best whenever the emotions rise to the most feverish pitch, yet she's also adventurous enough to include rarely heard and quite different numbers from the young Puccini's Le villi and Edgar." -All Music Guide
