Notes & Reviews:

Together with Carus-Verlag Stuttgart, under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann, the Dresdner Kammerchor will realize the first complete recording of the works of Heinrich Schuetz by 2017. This latest release, the "12 geistliche Gesaenge," is the 4th volume of the project. This recording is the only available complete recording of the 12 geistliche Gesaenge These motets are truly worth discovering and have earned a well deserved place in the concert halls, homes, and churches of today.

American Record Guide, July / August 2012
The choir sings these motets with simple organ and gamba accompaniment, which seems to accentuate their already austere nature. The chordal writing emphasizes textual clarity, almost as though Schütz were purposely avoiding the Italianate style that was so popular at the Saxon court. He seldom elaborates polyphonically, though he does use the alternatism technique of having groups in the choir echo one another. The complete lack of chromatic sonority and "aural spectacle" that one associates with Schütz's music takes a back seat to the transparency of harmonic design. The sound is exquisite. Notes and texts are in English.
