Ensemble ComposerNotes & Reviews:
American Record Guide, September / October 2012
The musicians in the Toronto-based Cecilia Quartet are all fine players, and they play well together, have lovely instruments, and seem to be doing well touring in Canada and elsewhere. This is their first recording.
They play with a great deal of energy, but I find listening to the G-major Quartet, Op. 106, emotionally exhausting because every phrase is nuanced to the fullest. The only place where I feel the space and clarity of mind to really hear the music is in the slow section of IV, which is genuinely beautiful. The rest of the recording is like a brilliant aural neon blur.
