Notes & Reviews:

Mendelssohn composed his evocative overture The Hebrides after a tour Scotland. This brilliant musical seascape in sunshine and storm is a supreme example of Romantic "program music", and its Scottist inspiration chimed perfectly with Romantic idealism. His "Violin Concerto in E minor, composed for his friend the violinist Ferdinand David, is considered to be one of the greatest of all violin concertos.
