"Bellissimo: French Opera" may be somewhat of an oxymoron, mixing Italian and French. This release is actually a promotional ploy for Dynamic recordings. All 13 selections are taken from recordings of the complete operas, CD and DVD. There are two instrumental pieces: the 'Meditation' from Thais and the Act 3 prelude to Massenet's Roma. The repertoire is indeed a listing of rarities: Les Danaides (Salieri, an aria sung by Montserrat Caballe), Les Huguenots (Meyerbeer), La Reine de Saba (Gounod), Roma (Massenet, an aria), Cherubin (Massenet), Polyeucte (Gounod), Le Roi de Lahore (Massenet), Pecheurs de Perles (Bizet, two arias), Le Roi d'Ys (Lalo), and an Italian Werther.

The performances are generally good. No texts.
