Notes & Reviews:

This program of contemporary songs for voice, violin and piano features the Canadian soprano Christine Howlett, British- Mexican violinist Patric Uribe and the American pianist Holly Chatham.

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
Howlett sings with great verve and precision, her English diction is admirably clear and direct, and her voice is capable of crystalline clarity in the upper register, but it sometimes becomes shrill at higher volumes, and the middle and lower registers have markedly less presence. Especially in the Cooman and the Waxman, both the poetry and the music would seem to call for a warmer, more womanly timbre. Uribe and Chatham both supply sensitive and understated support. Uribe is notably fine in Waxman's 'Love Song', where the voice and violin must join and separate in precise unisons and intervals to illustrate the poem's "out of two strings draws a single voice". The booklet includes complete texts but only brief bios for the composers; program notes on the compositions would have been welcome.
