Notes & Reviews:
David Bowerman began writing music at the age of 65, and these compositions are more reflective than futuristic. He draws on music and literature that holds personal ties for him, and the rest is a small medley of thoughts. The original compositions act as a springboard for Bowerman's imagination, where he seeks to reinvent but not out-soar them. A number of well-known artists and friends of Champs Hill appear here, including Gould Piano Trio, Sacconi Quartet, Emily Pailthorpe, and more.
American Record Guide, November/December 2012
In all fairness, the Fantasy on a Fugue of Elgar is gorgeous; Bowerman's romanticism works better with a bigger group, and the fugal sections for violin and oboe are very well written. This piece is lovely on its own, and would do well on a program that had some contrast to it. I just can't listen to a whole program of this. Sound and playing are gorgeous and musical.
