Now That's What I Call Britain offers Anglophiles an overflowing Pimm's Cup of all things Britannia. Disc one focuses on pipe bands, orchestras, and choirs, with highlights coming from tried-and-true nationalistic set pieces like "The Dam Busters March," "The British Grenadiers," and, of course, "God Save the Queen," while disc two shifts its gaze to 20th century radio staples from the likes of Vera Lynn, Gracie Fields, Ralph McTell, Cliff Richard, Tom Jones, and even the Kinks -- it's not all good-natured propaganda, though, as evidenced by the inclusion of songs like "Rocket Man" (Elton John), "Something in the Air" (Thunderclap Newman), and "The Air That I Breathe" (the Hollies). It's all in good fun, but like most thematic digital-age compilations, Now That's What I Call Britain feels a little more like a computer-generated "smart" playlist than it does a thoughtfully researched history lesson. ~ James Christopher Monger
