Every year, horn players in Saxony follow a centuries-old tradition by playing a St. Hubert's Mass in the church of Augustusburg Castle. In this way, they remind themselves and their guests of nature's decline and winter's approach in the progression of the seasons. They also commemorate St. Hubert (656 - 727), the holy man who once traveled a similar inward, spiritual journey. Today, he is the traditional patron saint of the hunt.
