Chamber choir Voces Musicales was founded in 1999 by Risto Joost mainly from the students of the Estonian Academy of Music. The repertoire of the choir includes music from renaissance polyphonies to contemporary compositions. Voces Musicales has been a guest performer at festivals in France, Israel and Finland. The choir has premiered the compositions of several contemporary Estonian composers and has cooperated with conductors Neeme Järvi, Olari Elts, Arvo Volmer, Andres Mustonen, and Jüri Alperten. In autumn 2009, the choir celebrated their 10th anniversary with a jubilee concert and now presents this live recording.

Will the fabulous choirs (and composers) from the tiny nation of Estonia ever stop popping up? I doubt it, in a country where almost every second citizen has sung in some sort of choir. The superb Voces Musicales ensemble performs here with stunning technical prowess, pinpoint intonation, and gorgeous tone. This performance of the Te Deum stands toe-to-toe with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir's (one of my handful of favorite choirs) on ECM 1505 (J/A 1994). The Talinn Sinfonietta also performs beautifully. Sound quality is excellent; the booklet, despite its very cursory work descriptions, is otherwise useful and complete.
