Notes & Reviews:

In celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Thomanerchor Leipzig (St. Thomas' Boys Choir) Rondeau publishing a ten-part series which exalts the marvelous tradition of the liturgical music of J.S. Bach in Leipzig. Even today the Thomanerchor and the Gewandhausorchester join forces weekly to perform one of Bach's cantatas at the church of St. Thomas. This release in particular highlights three of Bach's cantatas for Whitsunday, complete with boys from the choir's ranks in the soprano and alto solos. For church music enthusiasts as well as Bach lovers of all stripes, this gorgeous boy choir set is a must.

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
On the basis of Mr Koob's thorough and positive review of Biller's recording of the St Matthew Passion for Rondeau (4020: S/O 2012), I obtained that release. I was appalled to find that it - at least the copy I bought on the open market - presented its three discs in a flimsy cardboard folder most of whose surfaces were devoted to advertising this Kirchenjahr series. The notes, text, and translation had to be downloaded from the label's web site and printed out in a clumsy bundle of 57 letter-sized sheets. I am relieved and happy to report that no such outrage is perpetrated on buyers of this cantata series. The notes are excellent, and the textual materials are given in full.
