Notes & Reviews:

This original program by organist Matthias Havinga plays on the theme of the passacaglia throughout history: from its formal maturity in the 17th century through 20th century inventions on and developments of the once-rigid form. Though the passacaglia is certainly not restricted to the organ, this collection demonstrates just how well-suited the instrument's sustained tone and majestic timbres are to the form. Havinga delivers innovative performances with well-curated timbral understanding.

American Record Guide, November/December 2012
This Dutch organist (b 1983) is pursuing an active career as a soloist and continuo player. He is currently the director of music at the Lutheran Augustanakerk in Amsterdam. His playing here is fluent, sensitive, and engaging. It is rock solid with no ostentation or gimmicks. His program notes are generously illustrated with examples. Listeners interested in a program of this sort will not go wrong.

MusicWeb International, 3rd May 2013
An exceptional set of works performed by a young organist with outstanding skill.
