Album Notes

Electro-house DJ Benny Benassi can't resist a spacy bleep or a dark beat, so don't be surprised that his mix honoring Greece's biggest outdoor club is a bit nocturnal sounding. Think summer nights, as opposed to summer days, and you're in the vicinity of Cavo Paradiso '12, a two-disc set jammed with nighttime, and big room toons that build, crash, and release as they see fit. Highlights come from the likes of Maceo Plex (opening with sass by exposing "Deez Nutz"), No_ID & Martin Volt (offering video game-inspired moombahton on "Zelda"), Madison ("Icarus" is an amazing slice of '70s-inspired space disco), Steve Aoki (rapping up a dubstep monster with that "Cudi the Kid"), plus Jacques Lu Cont (closing it all with the veteran, classic slice of house called "Church"). The whole thing plays out in seamless Benassi style, making this an easy recommendation for those who like their house sets with equal parts taste and flash. Get thee to Mykos (at least virtually). ~ David Jeffries
