Willie Nelson in the 1960s wasn't quite yet the poster boy for the outlaw country movement he spearheaded a decade later. He was first and foremost a songwriter, and a very good one. This brief set collects Nelson's versions of some of the original songs that established him as a creative force in Nashville, songs that became big hits for other artists, including "Crazy" (Patsy Cline), "Hello Walls" (Faron Young), "Night Life" (Ray Price), and the elegant "Funny How Time Slips Away" (Billy Walker), among others. It's a short set, but these are the songs that first established Nelson's career, and they remain one of the richest parts of his legacy. ~ Steve Leggett
