Notes & Reviews:

Hungarian born György Cziffra was one of the most celebrated virtuosos of the post-war decades in Europe, noted for his powers of improvisation as a Liszt pianist. The Grieg Concerto is typical of Cziffra's 'mercurial quality' while the Liszt Concerto and Fantasy on Hungarian Folk Themes are very much in the style with which Liszt 'loved to astonish his adoring audiences'. (Bryce Morrison)

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
The Liszt Concerto is a little less clangy sounding than the Grieg; and while there are no pianistic distortions or over-the-top shenanigans to contend with, the Hungarian Fantasy is very freely played. Two brief solo encores (Scarlatti Sonata in D, K96 and Lully's Gavotte en rondeau in D minor) are attractive.
