Reviews

Interesting Chopin interpretations
This recording consists of the 24 preludes from Op. 28, as well as two other preludes, one in A-flat Major and the other in C-sharp minor, as well as Scriabin’s Sonata No. 2 in G-sharp minor, Op. 19. The 24 preludes themselves are short pieces filled with more than enough challenging difficulty for any pianist, and Ms. Rana aptly demonstrates her dexterity. Where she excels, though, is in the slower more moving preludes such as No. 4 in E-minor, No. 13 in F-sharp Major, No. 15 in D-flat Major (this is gorgeous), and No. 20 in C-minor.

Scriabin’s Sonata No. 2 starts with a somewhat Chopin-like first movement, filled with a lovely filigree of notes, giving way to a second movement filled with lots of back and forth interaction between the two hands up and down the keyboard. Ms. Rana performs this piece extremely well.

This recording is interesting, and I am glad I have it for the specific pieces that I called out, as well as the Scriabin sonata.
