Pianist Joshua Pierce's highly expressive and rhythmic approach to the music of John Cage is a result of his 30-year association with Cage's music, an approach that has been heralded worldwide. This 2-CD tribute contains recordings made in 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Pierce's performances come from concerts in 1994, 1995, 1998, and 2000; one includes musicians from Johnny Reinhard's American Festival of Microtonal Music Ensemble (including Reinhard himself playing bassoon, flutist Andrew Bolotowsky, trumpeter John Nelson, violinist Gregor Kitzis, and cellist David Eggaro). Those players are involved only in an arrangement of the Prelude for 6 Instruments in A minor as a piano sextet. (They play beautifully, by the way.) Mostly the two discs are taken up with piano music, including the monumental (and monumentally somber) Four Walls and the well known Sonatas and Interludes.
