Canadian Gary Hoffman is one of the outstanding cellists of our time, combining instrumental mastery, beauty of sound, and a poetic sensibility. Hoffman gained international renown upon his victory as the first North American to win the Rostropovich International Competition in Paris in 1986. Combining forces with pianist David Selig on this new project for La Dolce Volta, Hoffman presents the works for cello and piano by Felix Mendelssohn. In addition to the two Cello Sonatas, the disc includes the Variations Concertantes, the Albumblatt and the Song without words in D Major.
