Notes & Reviews:

In this fascinating compilation, major and minor composers are all viewed through the lens of the somewhat underutilized piano trio, in differing states of maturity and various vernaculars, to yield a comprehensive view of the work in the Russian school. All works are performed by the acclaimed Oistrakh trio, the most elite piano trio in the USSR in its day.

BBC Music Magazine, February 2013
Oistrakh, Oborin and Knushevitsky are on top form: their epic Tchaikovsky is worth the price of the discs alone. And the Trios by Rimsky, Taneyev and Shebalin are fascinating rarities.

American Record Guide, May/June 2013
For listeners with more patience, there are rewarding moments here - some wonderful variations in tempo that effectively relieve what can often be a lengthy and repetitious opening movement of the Tchaikovsky Trio, clearly unified understanding of complex polyphonic structures in the Taneyev, lyrical warmth and emotional tension in Rachmaninoff's elegy for Tchaikovsky. Oberin's playing has brilliant moments.
