Notes & Reviews:

Cellist Steven Isserlis, one of Britain's best-loved instrumentalists, joins forces with composer and pianist Thomas Adès for an intriguing recital of chamber music. The program includes three of Liszt's arrangements for cello and piano, Janácek's Pohádka and Fauré's passionate Cello Sonata No.2. The mystery and sadness of Kurtág's four miniatures for cello and piano lead the listener into the 21st century and to the title track of this disc, which Adès wrote especially for Isserlis. Lieux retrouvés is a characteristically thrilling tourde- force, displaying influences from all the composers previously featured and many more.

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
This is a program that fits together in an unusually effective way. It is partly because of Isserlis's illuminating liner notes, but the recital leads up to Ades piece and makes it the climax of an unusual and emotionally moving experience. Beautifully done, gentlemen!

BBC Music Magazine, December 2012
Match [Ades's playing] with the mellow sound and manner of Steven Isserlis's cello, and you have something very special. Their choice of repertory here - devised as an extended upbeat to Ades's Lieux retrouves at the end of the programme - is unusual, memorable, and wonderfully performed from start to finish.

Sunday Times, 30th September 2012
Isserlis is furiously lyrical and concentrated [in the Adès], but no less so in the other works, which offer aptly Romantic-modern context for Adès's inspiration.

Financial Times, 3rd November 2012
Isserlis plays with almost tangible intensity and soul, while Adès finds charm and natural expression at every turn - a true musical dialogue.
