Notes & Reviews:

As the cold and bleak winter days descend upon us, the Quadriga Consort presents long forgotten carols and age-old tunes of the festive season. With its arrangements for period instruments, the ensemble presents a program that is peaceful and reflective, and also merry and buoyant, conjuring memories of bygone days and awakening in us that sense of peace, wonder and excitement the Christmas season once held.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
The program begins with 'A Wassail, A Wassail' and continues with many that are quite familiar, including 'The Holly and the Ivy', 'Christmas Day in the Morning', 'Pat-a- Pan', 'Wexford Carol', 'Drive the Cold Winter Away', and 'Deck the Hall'. The arrangement of 'Pat-a- Pan' is especially enjoyable. If you enjoy small ensembles that do lively Celtic folk music, I think you'll like this. It feels like a cross between a Christmas program and programs with Irish or Scottish folk music. The performances are very good, and the sound is great. With the vocals, Elisabeth Kaplan, who has a pleasing voice, tends much more toward folk style than to classical. The combination of instruments is felicitous: recorders, viola da gamba, baroque cello, percussion (used sparingly), and harpsichord. The medley of Irish traditional music is particularly delightful. I would like to hear this ensemble do a program of all-season traditional Irish or Scottish music.
